The more you walk or travel by public transport or by bike, the more you win.
This is the original idea. We call it trafficO2, a research project led by PUSH and co-funded by MIUR in 2012 which, in just 3 years, with the involvement of 2,000 students from the University of Palermo (“the third and worst plague of Palermo is the traffic…” quote – but there’s some truth in it…) and a network of 100 companies, leads to a reduction in polluting emissions of over 40% and to the recognition of important awards.
In 2016 the research project is selected to take part in the “30 Weeks” startup acceleration programme promoted by Google and Hyper Island and, in October of the same year, it is presented at the Habitat III international conference held in Quito.
Thanks to the knowledge acquired, a new insight is born: turning sustainable urban mobility into a sport.
Citizens are the athletes, local administrations are the coaches and companies play the role of sponsors: MUV, a game with a scalable business model.
In 2017, through the Horizon 2020 call funded by the European Commission, we begin to co-design and test the game dynamics in six European cities: Amsterdam, Barcelona, Ghent, Fundao, Helsinki and Palermo.
Following two Open Calls launched in 2018 and 2019, other cities join the project, including Cagliari, Dudelange, Milan, Munich, Ostend, Rome, Teresina and Katowice.
In 2020 the project spin-off, MUV Società Benefit, is founded with the aim of turning sustainable urban mobility into a global movement and taking on ever more ambitious challenges.
Putting a face to the people who create challenges and tournaments for a more sustainable planet.

Today MUV works with an international network that includes public and private organisations in the fields of academia, technology, industry and design.
Employees of INAIL, LIST, ISPRA, Fondazione Unipolis, Fondazione CRT and many others have already turned their colleagues into sustainable mobility athletes and actively helped reduce emissions.
Whether it is a sustainability project for employees or a sponsorship for our champions, companies and organisations are also playing the game of change.
