MUV Inail - Case study sustainable mobility and CSR in PA.

MUV Case Study – INAIL, sustainable mobility and CSR in Public Administrations.

2 October 2023

MuvInail – Giochiamoci il futuro” is the project developed by MUV for Inail with the aim of encouraging sustainable mobility among the employees of the offices involved. Inail is among the first public administrations to have launched a gaming campaign to support sustainable mobility policies. The goal is to disincentive transport by private vehicle.

The contest.

Inail, National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work, is a non-economic Italian public body that manages compulsory insurance against accidents at work and occupational diseases. As required by the Italian regulations, on 22 December 2022, Inail approved the Home-Work Travel Plan (HWTP), with the aim of encouraging traffic decongestion in urban areas by reducing the use of private transport. The analysis was carried out on 14 offices with more than 100 employees located in municipalities with more than 50.000 inhabitants, which employ a total of 2.846 employees, or about one third of the Institute’s staff.

MUV-INAIL giochiamoci il futuro

The tournament “MUV Inail giochiamoci il futuro”.

MUV created a one-year project. Three challenges and three localised tournaments (north, central and south + islands) and, at the end, a national tournament for the best teams were created. Inail provided individual and team prizes such as the adoption of 500 sqm of Amazon rainforest.

After designing the brand identity, MUV designed the Welcome Kit useful for project dissemination and community involvement, containing examples, templates for effective internal communication. Throughout the project MUV provided customised graphics and copy on the channels used by the organisation to continue the storytelling aimed at engaging and entertaining employees.

The interlocutors and promoters of the initiative were the Central Planning and Communication Department and the Mobility Manager.

On the one hand the MUV Comms & Graphic Design team supported the promotion campaign, on the other hand the CSR & Mobility Data team interacted periodically with the Inail Mobility Manager, taking advantage of the support of the real time data dashboard useful for the drafting of CSR and HWTP reports.

The project roadmap included four phases. The first phase involved the four local units in Rome. The second one involved the five Local Units in Southern Italy and Islands and the winner of the Rome tournament. The third involved the northern local units and the winner of the Southern Italy tournament. The tournament of Italy was played from June to July 2023 and featured the best six teams in the previous phases: Bologna, DR – Lazio, Pastore, Torino, Cagliari and Napoli. Fought playoff weeks led to the final clash won by the Bologna local unit team against the Turin local unit team. The Roman sites, DR Lazio and Pastore, finished third and fourth respectively.

The impacts.

Since the start of the competition the CO2 savings is 3.15 tonnes of CO2. In addition to the impact measured in terms of CO2 saved, through our calculation method validated by RINA, MUV provided other data such as sustainable kilometres travelled, calories burned, and information related to user engagement and mobility habits. All data is provided in anonymous and aggregated form.

The average propensity to change exceeds 55%. In the Ferruzzi-Gradi local unit, 71% of users would be willing to use Public Transport if there were direct lines or few changes. In Naples, 93% would be willing to carpool with a colleague and in Palermo, 55% would use the scooter in safer road conditions and with a dedicated parking space.

We hope that many more PAs can follow Inail’s example, one of the first to have launched a gaming campaign to support sustainable mobility policies. It also joined the 19th edition of “M’illumino di meno” with the campaign “Turn off the light, turn on the future” aimed at raising awareness and involving all staff, to support responsible behaviour and spread the intelligent and rational use of energy outside and inside the workplace.

MUV values companies that want to contribute to change and engage locally, highlighting the principles and values they believe in, promote and place at the heart of their activities.

Play with us

Employees of INAIL, LIST, ISPRA, Fondazione Unipolis, Fondazione CRT and many others have already turned colleagues into sustainable mobility athletes and actively contributed to reducing emissions.

MUV for Business

Whether it is a sustainability project for employees or sponsorship for our champions, companies and organizations play as well the game of change.
