The PUMS Cagliari Challenge was a collaborative challenge and a real revolution. In collaboration with the Metropolitan City of Cagliari and the City’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, from April 2 to May 6, 2024, the MUV challenge involved 856 participants who accumulated 5,868,685 points and travelled 83,574 km in sustainable modes. The mix of modes used? 39% local public transportation, 20% walking, 13% trains, 12% bicycles and scooters, 8% carpooling, and 7% electric vehicles.
The challenge not only promoted a more active lifestyle, but also had a concrete environmental impact.
The Metropolitan City of Cagliari has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to promoting sustainable mobility. Through the PUMS Cagliari Challenge, the city wants to reduce CO2 emissions and create a more cohesive and environmentally conscious community. This kind of initiative makes the world a better place, one step at a time. The Metropolitan Sustainable Mobility Plan puts the citizen and his or her right to get around by choosing the sustainable mode that suits them best, offering alternatives to the car.
More than 850 muvers fought for the health of their city but also for the chance to win outstanding prizes. The Metropolitan City of Cagliari raffled off prizes for the most daring participants collected on stage at an awards ceremony held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, in Monte Claro.
Milorieko, framat93 and aleotto won CTM local public transport cards; .terry. won a foldable muscle bike; framat93 a foldable electric scooter and im_yaenkeeszz triumphed with a silver feather foldable e-bike.
The testimonies collected reflect the participants’ enthusiasm and engagement: from exploring new neighborhoods in Cagliari to the freedom to move untethered from traditional means. Some even walked up to 30 kilometers a day to maintain the lead.
The success of the event was amplified by a solid communication strategy that included PR, local press, social media and regional TV coverage. For this edition, MUV developed the brand identity of the challenge, created and distributed the Welcome Kit, useful for the coordinated image of the event. Through DEM and social activities and leveraging the MUV Game app, it sent continuous updates and competitive stimuli to participants.
The agency “37 Communication” played a crucial role, taking care of every aspect of advertising communication with a series of targeted actions: informational videos to raise awareness and inform participants, promotional campaigns both online and offline, and an OOH (Out of Home) strategy through billboards, placing strategic messages at key points in the city to maximize visibility. These initiatives were key to keeping users consistently engaged and motivated.
The PUMS Cagliari Challenge is not just a sustainable mobility competition, it is a symbol of what we can accomplish when we join forces for the good of our planet.
This challenge also showed us that the power of a game can transform the daily routine into an opportunity for positive environmental impact. We want to inspire other municipalities and metropolitan cities to join us in this global movement and make sustainable mobility our sport of choice!
Employees of INAIL, LIST, ISPRA, Fondazione Unipolis, Fondazione CRT and many others have already turned colleagues into sustainable mobility athletes and actively contributed to reducing emissions.
Whether it is a sustainability project for employees or sponsorship for our champions, companies and organizations play as well the game of change.
