Sustainable mobility is a growing necessity in cities around the world. In Avellino, thanks to a collaboration between MUV Game and the City Council, an initiative is taking shape that aims to turn daily commutes into sustainable opportunities (and financial paybacks!).
According to the 2023 IPCC report, transportation is responsible for about 23% of total greenhouse gas emissions, 70% of which come from road transport. Passenger cars, which carry just 1.4 passengers on average in Italy, are a major pollutant, accounting for 61% of total CO2 emissions from road transport in the EU.
Scope 3 emissions include indirect emissions produced in the value chain and thus depend on individual processes. These kinds of behaviours are difficult to monitor and influence and often coincide with the impact of employees’ home-to-work travel.
In this context, municipalities are uniquely positioned to influence mobility choices. Integrating innovative technologies such as the solution MUV offers is one of the possibilities. Gamifying the mobility experience and making transportation sustainable is what the City of Avellino is doing with “I MOVE GREEN 2.”
The City of Avellino has involved us in the “I MOVE GREEN 2” challenge, an innovative project that rewards citizens for their sustainable travel. Through the use of the MUV Game app, participants can earn €0.20 for every kilometer traveled sustainably. It encourages the use of environmentally friendly means of transportation such as cycling and walking.
The challenge is taking place from October 10 2024 until September 25 2025. The goal is to reduce the city’s carbon footprint, improve air quality and promote a more active lifestyle among residents. “I MOVE GREEN 2” specifically targets workers domiciled or residing in Avellino or neighbouring municipalities who choose to travel to their place of work by bicycle, electric bicycle or on foot. For more details, see the rules.
If you are from Avellino or neighbouring municipalities, all you have to do is join the challenge.
MUV Game uses technology developed in-house with proprietary algorithms that analyze data in real-time and provide the municipality with all the information it needs to monitor “Scope 3” indicators and engage end users.
The I MOVE GREEN 2 challenge wants to be not only an example of how technology can facilitate urban sustainability, but also a replicable model that other cities can adopt.
Employees of INAIL, LIST, ISPRA, Fondazione Unipolis, Fondazione CRT and many others have already turned colleagues into sustainable mobility athletes and actively contributed to reducing emissions.
Whether it is a sustainability project for employees or sponsorship for our champions, companies and organizations play as well the game of change.
