We are Urban Doers! - MUV and DUT Partnership.

In this article we tell you how the Urban Doers kickoff event went, an initiative that marks a new chapter for MUV in sustainable urban transformation. MUV is in fact among the 20 projects selected in the first edition of the Urban Doers Grant. And the only one from Italy!

In its first edition, the Urban Doers Grant received 190 applications from all over Europe in four areas: circularity and nature based solutions, energy and buildings, mobility and urban transition. We are delighted to have been initially selected as one of 10 promising projects in the field of European urban mobility, which was later expanded to 20.

The Urban Doers Grant is an initiative of the Driving Urban Transition (DUT) Partnership that aims at supporting urban initiatives to connect to research and innovation and help them share their knowledge and experiences across Europe to make their innovative ideas work in urban areas.

In a nutshell, what will we do?

MUV will continue to encourage responsible behaviour and better mobility habits through the game dynamics in the app, measure users’ progress by certifying CO2 reduction and use the collected data to create home-to-work or home-to-school travel plans. But it won’t stop there. Thanks in particular to the Urban Doers Grant opportunity, we want to define a data standard for home-to-work and home-to-school travel to standardise the drafting of mobility management plans worldwide. In addition, we have the ambitious goal of developing the “MUV Index“. It is a universal indicator of urban mobility and sustainable value that can help every organisation assess its own status quo of implemented sustainable mobility measures and understand how to improve them.

How did the Urban Doers Grant kickoff event go.

To innovate, it is essential to learn, to get to know virtuous examples and to be inspired by new ideas.

For this reason, the Urban Doers kickoff decided to start precisely with a visit to Vienna’s 15th district, “Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus”, a place that symbolises the urban transformation taking place in many European cities, part of a broader plan involving the entire capital. The DUT team guided us through the social housing of the 15th district which, with 49% of its population made up of immigrants, is one of the most culturally rich districts. The district is also home to initiatives and projects promoting sustainable mobility, with cycle paths and parks.

This was followed by a social dinner to break the ice and get to know each other better.

The following day was intense, with a programme that included workshops, discussions on the various projects and networking sessions. We exchanged ideas, learned from the experiences of the other projects and strengthened our determination to work together to make European cities more sustainable and innovative.

It is only the beginning!

The kickoff of the Urban Doers Grant 2023 held in Vienna was just the beginning of an exciting adventure that will continue for the next 12 months.

Sustainable urban transformation is a global challenge and together we can make cities greener, more liveable and more connected. And we are happy to be able to do this with a network of 19 other projects from 13 countries in Europe and with the valuable support of the DUT team.

The next Urban Doers events will take us to webinars, trainings and events, online and live.

At the end of the 12 months we will deliver a concept paper focusing on the strategic development and market opportunities of MUV.
